5 easy ways to create a colourful stylish kids room

One of my favourite trends at the moment for decorating kids’ bedrooms is definitely a colourful eclectic approach. It creates a fun and inspiring place for your little ones to play, learn and grow.

Here are 5 easy steps for creating your own colourful space.

Bedding

Easily the quickest way to change the feel of a room is to pop a colourful bedspread, duvet, quilt or blanket on the bed. The large surface area will give an instant transformation.

I especially love these designs by London indie brand Too Many PJs and Australian brand Kip and Co

Wall stickers

Wall stickers are perfect for creating an individual style without having to lift a paintbrush. You can unpeel and replace them until you’re happy with the look and they definitely fit the colourful aesthetic.

Some of my favourites include Made of Sundays - plastic free and removable and based in Finland (don’t worry they ship worldwide) and Mini Wallers who are another fab Welsh company.

Cushions

Obviously I couldn’t write a blog post about colourful kids rooms without including some of the fab cushion designs you can find here on the Nelly’s Treasures site. Fun animals, bright pastel shades and quirky puns there is definitely something for everyone within the collection. My favourites at the moment are the charming tiger and the happy sunshine cushions.

Storage

If you follow any kids interiors accounts on Instagram you will have seen the hugely popular colourful storage crates made by Aykasa or Hay. They come in a rainbow of colours to choose, from muted neutrals to bright pops of turquoise and lilac. Available in a variety of sizes too these stackable bad boys are great for stylishly tidying away toys, bits and bobs, nappies, you name it!

The This Modern Life website even has a handy visualisation tool so you can see different colour combos together before you buy! Genius!

Canopies

A bed canopy adds a certain nostalgic charm as well as a fresh pop of colour. I have a mustard one above my son’s bed which he loves and makes him feel like he’s camping out (anything to make bedtime more fun in my book is a good plan!) You can pick up simple and affordable ones easily from amazon but if you’re looking for one with that extra special feel to it then the Scandiborn website has some beautiful ones to choose from.

Happy Styling!
